Music has always been an important part of my life, starting at a very young age. From watching my brothers (Kid Kenobi and Myli D) record music in there studios, going to raves at the ripe age of 16, to sorting through an enormous collection of CD’s that my eldest brother had acquired and secretly listening to them.
All of these different stages led to me to pursue my passion in both DJing and producing. Both my brothers would repeatedly remind me that producing (and DJing too) was a matter of starting from scratch. Doing everything yourself was key! Whether it be simply making an uplifter for your track or writing a lead sound, everything in the end will be a lot easier if you put in the hours.
This EP came around through my many many hours sitting in front of my laptop and making unfinished track after track. Until I realised that I was scared to make that step into my own path and start the journey in finding my own sound. In the end I found that it was important to channel different ideas of other producers but sill make it your own. Rather than simply copy an idea and end up with something that will always just be second best.
‘Primus’ is a latin term for first; in my case meaning my first EP. The first track of the EP, ‘Go!’ combines the heavy kicks of techno with the big uplifting melodies that I would love hearing at raves. ‘Go!’ is about the nights I spent at raves, moments shared at clubs and that feeling when you hear a track you fall in love with for the first time. ‘Right Now’ is the second track from ‘Primus’. It’s somewhat dark elements are pulled together with a deep grooving bass line. ‘Right Now’ draws on what I love most about music. An almost ying-yang effect, where a deeper baseline or sound can be placed with an uplifting melody an work beautifully. Third from the EP is ‘Revised Method’. Like its name suggests, it’s my take on the whole trap movement that seemed to have swept through Australia (and the world in that matter). It has an emotive vibe with big bass, the 808’s and a party vibe!
Enjoy the EP!
